REWINDER

About REWINDER

A 2D time-rewind platformer for Windows, built in Unity 6 by four students in France.

What is REWINDER

REWINDER is a 2D side-scrolling platformer with one twist: you can rewind yourself. You run, you jump, you get stuck, and then you take back the last three seconds of your own movement. Levels are built around that, less about reflexes and more about working out which three seconds are worth undoing.

The story starts with a hardware fault. It digitised you and dropped you somewhere on a motherboard. The BIOS scans the machine, finds something that can move backwards through time, and flags you as a maximum-threat anomaly. You are not trying to break anything. You are trying to get out of the machine before it removes you.

How the rewind works

Press R. The last three seconds of your path play back in reverse and you end up where you were, exactly along the route you took. It only ever retraces your own path, so the rest of the world keeps running while you travel back. A capacitor that dropped stays dropped.

That makes rewind a movement tool more than an undo button. Climb somewhere you cannot climb back down from, take a route that seals behind you, then rewind up through it. Input runs through the Unity Input System, so keyboard and gamepad both work out of the box.

About this website

The home page is a scroll-driven preview of level one. It plays itself as you scroll, or as you swipe on a phone: the character crosses the motherboard, a capacitor seals the way ahead, he falls into the pit, hacks the PC, rewinds back up and escapes into the void. It is not a playable level. The one thing you do yourself is press R, which runs the rewind demo.

It was built by software.cheriefamily.com.
